Streets of New York

Filed under: Italian, Mesa, AZ, PizzaShay @ 2:29 pm

There was a toss up today as to where we should head for lunch. No one had any ideas or was too enthused to make a decision as to where we should. In the end we settled on the Streets of New York. This seemed like a fitting option for all as it was not to far away and had a little bit of everything so that we could all do our own thing. (more…)

Tasty Joe’s Asian Diner

Filed under: Asian, Mesa, AZShay @ 1:42 pm

I am a pretty big fan of Asian dining, especially orange chicken, but lately I have been getting a little tired of it. After eating so much fried Asian food I start to feel a little sick. So today when I heard we were going to Tasty Joe’s Asian Diner for lunch I wasn’t too excited. I had been there before and from what I remembered it was nothing special, and in my opinion not nearly as good as Panda Express. (more…)

Sassy C’s

Filed under: Bakery, Mesa, AZShay @ 2:09 pm

Last Friday we all went down the road to the local orange grove on Greenfield and McKellips that is now selling lunch. The orange grove is called the “Citrus Heights” and the small eatery inside of it is called “Sassy C’s”.

I was not expecting too much from Sassy C’s, maybe a sandwich and some stale chips, however I was delightfully pleased to see much more. The restaurant offers a variety of signature sandwiches and salads as well as a good selection of deserts. I ordered a Sassy combo which included a half a sandwich, half a bowl of soup, and a cookie of my choice. For the sandwich I went with the special sandwich of the day - the pulled pork. The description of the sandwich sounded different than any other pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever had, coming with lettuce, bell peppers, BBQ sauce, and more. I was a little worried about the sandwich but was open for something new and again, I was delightfully pleased. The sandwich was delicious and was clearly hand made with fresh ingredients.

For my soup I went with the tortilla soup, and like the sandwich it was delicious. I would not call it the best tortilla soup I’ve ever had but it was good enough that I would order it again. Perhaps if they added a dip of sour cream to the top it would be fantastic, then again not everyone likes sour cream.

The cookie I got was the sugar cookie. The cookie was soft and had a smooth layer of icing over the top. My only critique with the cookie is that I wish there was more icing for the amount of bread. This, like the sour cream, is most likely only a personal fault. I truly enjoy icing, so much in fact that some may consider it a bit disgusting.

Overall Sassy C’s is great. This don’t say this often but I highly recommend you check this place out. They have fantastic lunch offerings at a reasonable price so be sure to stop by and see them Monday - Saturday 11:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.

Cafe Laguna

Filed under: Frybread, Gilbert, AZShay @ 2:39 pm

Yesterday we went down to the Cafe Laguna, a Native American owned restaurant offering different selections of authentic Native cuisine from Laguna Pueblo recipes. Upon hearing about Cafe Laguna all I knew is that they offered fry bread, and to be completely honest I was not completely sure what that entitled. Either way I was down for the adventure. (more…)

Ned’s Krazy Sub

Filed under: Deli, Mesa, AZShay @ 1:55 pm

Today was another rather busy day in the office so when it came time for lunch the boss said he would run out and pick us up some sandwiches. When he asked for any recommendations I threw out Neds Krazy Subs. With out too much being said the boss headed out the door and we all continued our work. Shortly after the boss walked back into the office with two bags of sandwiches and some Jones Soda. (more…)

Cafe Mix

Filed under: Mediterranean, Mesa, AZShay @ 3:50 pm

The day before Thanksgiving everyone was buzzing around the office trying to finish up a big project before the long weekend. Not surprisingly we all decided to run out for a quick lunch, some place where we could run in, eat, and head out in a hurry. We went right down the street to the new Cafe Mix, a Greek restaurant on the corner of Greenfield and McKellips. (more…)

Cornish Pasty Company

Filed under: English, Tempe, AZShay @ 3:10 pm

Last Friday we all found our way down to Tempe for lunch at the Cornish Pasty Company on University and Hardy. I have been here a few times before but truth be told I’ve had mixed results every time. It seems like every time I’ve went the people with me either love it or hate it. Some people see pasties as over sized hot pockets while others see them the best thing since sliced bread. I’ve always been right down the middle, not overly thrilled about them yet never unsatisfied with one either. (more…)

Rincon Peruano

Filed under: Mesa, AZ, PeruvianShay @ 12:12 pm

Today we are down at Rincon Peruano to try something a little different. I’ve never had Peruvian food so I just might be in for a treat.

After looking at the menu I’m not too sure what to get. After speaking with a fellow diner and the waitress I have decided to go with the Lomo Saltado. We’ll see how this turns out. (more…)
