First Impressions
It seemed like it took months for Cafe Mix to open, next to the WaMu at McKellips and Greenfield. Obviously, they put a lot of effort into decoration. The walls are attractively done with small lights, a faux finish, and neatly hung paintings of unidentifiable cityscapes. It seems a touch upmarket compared to similar places.

Yes, it’s time for a minor dose of insanity.

The school’s primary attempt to gear up for the fundraiser appears to have been to move all the tables out of the cafeteria and put up some signs that said “Yee-Ha” and similar. They looked like pep-rally leftovers. Conspiciously absent was clear signage as to where to go or what to do; maybe they assume the people likely to visit are involved enough in the school to know where to go.

Rincon Peruano is located in a dying shopping centre on Alma School and Main, near the railway tracks. Outside is a large sign announcing “Peruvian Restaurant” and a small fold-up announcing a lunch buffet option.
The inside was unexpectedly bright and clean; one wall had a mural painted, while another was decorated with the national flag and some throw-rugs.

Today we are down at Rincon Peruano to try something a little different. I’ve never had Peruvian food so I just might be in for a treat.
After looking at the menu I’m not too sure what to get. After speaking with a fellow diner and the waitress I have decided to go with the Lomo Saltado. We’ll see how this turns out. (more…)

Garcia’s had to rebuild a few years ago, when the original location was levelled for a bus station. The new facility is brightly painted and features an open ‘cantina’ area. In general, the look, with colourful tile and rustic furniture, feels like a significantly lower-budget Tia Rosa’s.

Today I am going to try something new, while at the same taking advantage of modern technology. Recently I downloaded an application to my cell phone that allows me to write reviews in real time. So today I am going to be writing my review while eating, we’ll see how it goes. (more…)

Indigo Joe’s is located in what is clearly the most prosperous corner of the Power and McDowell Road intersection, amid realtors’ offices and fancy bread shops.
The internal decor is primarily sporting artifacts– including a complete run of NFL helmets, and the obligatory 24 televisions. There is both a bar area and normal table seating with unusually high chairs. Strangely, a small room off to the side offers a 1982-vintage Ms. Pac-Man game and claw-machine. Several of the televisions are devoted to online trivia/poker games.

Ok, so this last week Jason’s Deli gave us a call and told us they would like to treat our employees to lunch. We couldn’t refuse. Ever since going to Jason’s Deli I have been a fan. They have great sandwiches, salads, soups, and they even have free ice cream for dessert. I would compare the place with a Paradise Bakery but better. If you have not tried Jason’s Deli, you are missing out!! Don’t take my word for it, read the rest of the reviews on the site. They have a couple locations in the valley so I’m sure wherever you are located, there is a Jason’s Deli close to ya.
Our office is located in East Mesa so we decided to try something new and something close. We ended up at a sports bar called Indigo Joes located on Power & McDowell. We were seated immediately and the atmosphere reminded me of a Buffalo Wild Wings. There were many tvs with plenty of sports to watch. The menu consisted of burger, wings, sandwiches, & salads. I decided to go with the ahi tuna sandwich. I am a big fan of ahi tuna. The sandwich came with fries and was a pretty large portion. The food came out quickly and the service was good. Our waitress was sure to keep our drinks full at all times. The sandwich was pretty good. Not the best ahi tuna sandwich I have had, but then again I was at a sports bar.
In conclusion I thought the place was pretty good. If you are looking to watch a ufc fight or the suns play, this would be a great place. Plenty of seating and pretty good food. I will go back for sure.
The other day we all ran out to Senor Tacos for a quick bit to eat. Senor Tacos is very similar to your typical Filiberto’s or the other mildly dingy Mexican joint. It’s not to say that Senor Tacos was a bad place either, some of the best places I have been to were particularly dirty and dingy. (more…)
