Zushi… what kind of name is that? Almost like owners couldn’t think of anything else so they just switched out the “S” with a “Z”. Who knows though, if it works, it works!
I, as the rest of the team here, are pretty big fans of sushi so when you take us out to a sushi and/or Japanese restaurant you better know what you are getting yourself into. We’re going to be critics, and rough ones at that.
Zushi has the décor of a new, hip, urban restaurant and by the looks of it has a tremendous amount of potential. The place is sleek and has a indoor/outdoor seating as well as a pretty nice bar. One thing though, is the food any good?
When I can into the office Friday morning I had no idea we were going out for sushi for lunch, other wise I would not have had sushi for diner Thursday night. To say the least when I heard we were going out for sushi I wasn’t too excited. Not nearly as excited as I would have regularly been. However I did see this as an opportunity to venture off of the sushi menu and try one the actual meals and/or lunch specials. Truth be told I have been eating at Japanese restaurants for a while now however I never venture too far from the sushi menu. Now was my chance!
I ordered a shrimp and avocado sandwich. The sandwich came on a ciabatta bread bun with shrimp, avocado, and a spicy seaweed mayo. At first I was a little weary about the “seaweed mayo” however I was insured by my waiter that is not what I would think and that the seaweed mayo is actually pretty decent. I must say he was correct. My sandwich was pretty good, as was my salad. The shrimp and avocado were put together quite nicely with the seaweed mayo, and all came together quite well. My one critique for the food would have been the bun. It was a little too thick and a little too rough/chewy for my taste. At times I had to literally wrap my mouth around the sandwich in order to take a bite. After which I would battle the bread chewing it for quite some time.
One thing about Zushi that particularity bugged me was the speed of service. Everything from ordering drinks to the time they came out, ordering food to the time it came out, and so forth – it all took ages. I can understand this to an extend but the place was empty. I mean we were the ONLY people in there (Besides one couple who finished eating, then decided to brush and floss there teeth at the bar. Disgusting! Have some manners!).
Overall I would say things were O.K., I’d give them a “C”at best. This doesn’t mean I would never go back, I will presented the opportunity. However if I go back and they put on another show like this you can count me out.
